Sparks in Cork
In 2016, in Boston, when I first started learning photography, my main exercises were simply walking through the streets and capturing anything that spoke to me. I remember clearly that while I was learning how to use the aperture, the shutter, and to understand composition, I began to realize that photos aren’t found only with the eyes, but with the heart. The better you are at expressing what’s inside you, the more your photos start to become something meaningful. Technique, visual knowledge, and the references you gather throughout life certainly give you a foundation. Professionalism comes when you’re able to recreate ideas whenever needed. But there’s a moment when you realize that photography begins to turn into a quiet piece of yourself. It doesn’t arrive all at once; it comes as small sparks, points of light that start to illuminate the dark alleys we sometimes have to walk through in life.
